The Ochres – A must see
In the Ochre Land(scapes) ….
From the 17th century until today with the “Société des Ocres de France”, the ocher industry, combined with erosion, has created spectacular landscapes. Sandy island with exceptional colors, from a soft and tender yellow to a bold and intense reddish brown, the Ochres Massif stretches for 25 km, from Goult to Gignac via Roussillon, Gargas, Villars and Rustrel.
The Ochres Massif is a classified and protected area, part of the Luberon Regional Nature Park, a UNESCO Global Geopark and Biosphere Reserve.
So don’t hesitate to discover, by foot or by bike, this Western-worthy cliffs, fairy chimneys and other mountains of sand !
The Ochres Walking path of Roussillon
The Ochres Walking path of Roussillon offers fantastic panoramas of reliefs where the greens of the trees rival the orange of the cliffs to offer a striking contrast. Two routes, marked with explanatory signs in these old open-pit quarries, are possible (30 and 60 minutes).
Whether in the morning or at the end of the day, the light is just incredible !
